Weymouth becomes giant canvas for new mural trail
It features a range of unique artworks by several local and UK-based artists
Weymouth has been turned into a giant canvas as a mural trail officially launched at several locations across the popular seaside resort yesterday (Monday 15th August).
The brand new artworks make up the Weymouth Mural Trail, which is a partnership between Weymouth Town Council and We Are Weymouth, featuring a range of unique artworks by several local and UK-based artists.
Some of the artists behind the murals joined councillors from Weymouth Town Council, and representatives from We Are Weymouth at one of the murals on Trinity Road to help launch the trail.
Visitors and residents alike can see the talents of local and UK artists making their mark on the beautiful Dorset coastal town with their unique and signature styles.
Locations featuring in the trail range from Overcombe in the north, to the town centre, and South Harbourside, to name just a few. For more details visit the Weymouth Mural Trail page.
Cllr Ann Weaving, Mayor of Weymouth, said:
“Armed with spray paint and brushes, the commissioned artists have been busy over the past few months unleashing their creativity on some of Weymouth’s walls and hidden corners.
“From smugglers’ tales to a unique Weymouth postcard, our seaside town is the perfect place to showcase these diverse and thought-provoking artworks. And it’s a fantastic opportunity to bring investment into the town as well as attracting new visitors to Weymouth to explore the trail.”
Dawn Rondeau, We Are Weymouth (BID) comments:
“We are thrilled to see this initiative, which has been developing since 2021, spanning the geography of our town and giving both visitors and locals something new to discover.
“We are proud to have worked in partnership with Weymouth Town Council in commissioning the art murals as part of an initiative focused on improving Weymouth, providing a long-term legacy for the town, and enhancing buildings and properties to create that ‘wow-factor’.
"The response by everyone has been overwhelmingly positive and we look forward to promoting the trail and seeing a new demographic coming to see the great pieces of artistic work installed here.”
There are plaques next to each artwork with QR codes that can be scanned to find out more about the murals and the artists who created them.
There's a map of where to find them all on the Weymouth Town Council website.
