Visitors to Weymouth's beaches are encouraged to take refillable bottles and make use of local taps this summer.

The Town Council's got more than 20 refill points installed between Weymoth Pavilion and Greenhill Gardens, accessible for all to use.

Today (Friday 28th July), they've been teaming up with Litter Free Dorset to promote their use, with 'tappy hour' on the Promenade, by the King's Statue.

Free fruit and juices were given out for people to flavour water they're taking from the refill points.

Reusable water bottles were also provided for people going along.

Cllr Kate Wheller, Mayor of Weymouth, said:

“There are more than 20 free taps stretching from Weymouth Pavilion end of the beach to Greenhill Gardens that can be used to refill water bottles rather than buying more plastic bottles.

“We hope that that by raising awareness of their locations, visitors and residents will be encouraged to reuse water bottles and help us reduce the need for single use plastics, which can easily drift out to sea and have a negative impact on our oceans and marine life.”
