A West Dorset Dairy farm has been praised in the House of Commons for its approach to sustainability and animal welfare.

Hollis Mead Dairy Farm milks its cows once a day in an effort to improve welfare, something they say also boosts the quality of their produce.

Chris Loder praised Hollis Mead Organic Dairy in West Dorset for their approach to sustainable farming and incredibly high animal welfare standards.

The farm opened the week before the first lockdown in 2020 selling milk. Now, they're expanding their product to include cheese too.

Rex Fisher works there. He told Greatest Hits Radio Dorset:

"We don't want to fit a square peg into a round hole. We really want to find what cheeses work best for our milk and what times of year.

"We're a big believer in the alpine method of cheese making where they put the cows on the spring grass and then that's when they make all the best cheeses.

"We want to work with nature, with the seasons, in order to create something that is truly delicious.

"We're milking just once a day, we're feeding the cows nothing but grass which means you get a really creamy, delicious, thick milk that's so, so much better for you."
