A partnership between Wessex Water, Weymouth Town Council and Dorset council have seen some new free water refill points installed in the town.

People can now top-up with tap water at four different areas.

Three out of the four units are now switched on and can be used by the public.

They can be found in Hope Square, the Promenade and in Alexandra Gardens.

The fourth one on New Bond Street should be in use within the next few weeks.

Water quality will be checked by Wessex Water and hygienic cleans will be taking place regularly.

Two more can be found in South Street, Dorchester and Bucky Doo Square in Bridport.

REDUCING SINGLE-USE PLASTIC BOTTLES

Wessex Water are installing the water refill points in towns and cities across the UK to stop the use of single-use plastic bottles.

Their aim to get people to refill their bottle, rather than buying a new one.

In the UK 7.7 billion plastic water bottles are used each year and a large amount of these end up in waterways, harming both the environment and wildlife. If the average person uses a reusable bottle, it will cut the need for 100 disposable plastic bottles a year.
