A Dorset Dad has finally been reunited with his family after months of self-isolating.
Leon Gentle was blocked from returning from his father's funeral in South Africa in July when he tested positive for COVID-19.
He continued to test positive, which made getting home to the UK nearly impossible.
But his family were there at 12am after his final day in a quarantine hotel, as early as he was allowed to leave.
It's been a long journey for Leon, after finally making it back to the UK in early August with a negative test result on a lateral flow test.
He was told by hotel staff he would still have to use a PCR test which are known to be more sensitive. He tested negative on day two of quarantine, but then positive once more on day eight, meaning he was dealt the worst possible hand.
Leon told Greatest Hits Radio Dorset:
"Three months ago if you'd told me this would have happened I would have never gone to South Africa. I know it was my dad's funeral but I think even he wouldn't want me to go through all this.
"I think it gives you a sense of what it's like in prison.
"But, my goodness, what a brilliant experience just seeing my wife and my kids again, I missed them so much."
Jill Gentle, Leon's wife said:
"We didn't know if or when this day would come so we're very chuffed to have Leon back. We've had amazing friends and support."
Now the family are off on a summer holiday to see friends in Northampton, hopefully this time without any months-long complications.
