People in Wareham can find out more about big changes in health care coming to hospitals in Poole and Bournemouth.

Two new barn theatres are being developed in Poole and a new maternity unit will open in Bournemouth next April.

Other changes will see Bournemouth become an emergency care hospital and Poole will be an elective care site.

An information event is being held by University Hospitals Dorset (UHD) at the Corn Exchange in Wareham from 10.00am next Thursday (21st November).

Siobhan Harrington, chief executive at UHD, said:

“Exciting changes are happening across our hospitals, and these will have a huge impact on the people of Dorset and anyone who uses our services. We want to help residents from across the whole region understand what these changes mean for them, their families, and friends by speaking to them and listening to their questions and any concerns.

“Big, positive changes have already happened across UHD and are making a real difference to patients. Stroke services moved from Poole Hospital to the Royal Bournemouth site earlier this year and having the service on one site is already making improvements in patient care, especially in reducing the average length of stay for patients.

“We know that change can be unsettling but we’re here to listen and help those with concerns through the changes.”

This event is the latest in a series of public events with the next taking place at Gather, Dolphin Shopping Centre, Poole on Thursday 5th December, from 10.00am to 4.00pm.
