A nearly 100 year old plaque to honour soldiers from the Dorset Regiment killed in the First World War has been lovingly restored at Dorset County Hospital.

The plaque was originally unveiled at the Princes Street hospital site on 15th January 1925.

It was to honour the 4,000 fallen from the Dorset Regiment, when the hospital was re-equipped following the Great War.

When DCH moved to its current site in 1988, the plaque was put in its current position, near the Bereavement Room.

In late 2022, its deterioration was brought to the attention of the Dorset Regiment, with a careful refurb arranged.

Captain Mick Jarrett worked alongside the DCH Arts in Hospital Manager Suzy Rushbrook, on the project.

Local craftsman Chris Groves carried out the work itself

Arts in Hospital manager Suzy Rushbrook said:

“It was a privilege to meet past and present members of this historic local regiment and to understand more about the significance of the commemorative plaque. We would be honoured to be part of a small ceremony in November as an act of remembrance and thanks for those who served in the first and second world wars.”
