The B3082 in Blandford to Wimborne Road remains closed after a van carrying fireworks exploded before catching fire.

The incident, which was reported to Dorset Police at 9.49pm on Friday 8th November, happened adjacent to the Ashley Wood Golf Club, Blandford.

The Ford Transit carrying fireworks caught light as the vehicle was travelling towards Blandford.

Retained Firefighters from Wimborne and Blandford attended the fire and remained on scene all night, ensuring there was no further risks to the wider public.

During the fire, there was an explosion which is why the roof and rear doors are bubbled and the side panels blown out. Part of the roof landed in a nearby field.

Fortunately no one was injured in the incident.

Recovery are en route and the local authority has been contacted to attend and assess whether the carriageway needs resurfacing prior to the road being opened.

The road closures at the Wimborne end is at the True Lovers Knot pub in Tarrent Keyneston and at the Blandford end at the entrance road to Ashley Wood Golf Club. for smaller vehicles taking the side roads is appropriate, but large vehicle should avoid this.

Traffic remains currently quiet.
