Two girls have been sexually assaulted in the sea near Bournemouth Pier.

The two victims are aged 10 and 11.

Police say they were called to a disturbance at the Pier Approach at around 3.45pm yesterday afternoon (Sunday 25th June).

The victims reported they were touched inappropriately by a man in the sea.

A 43-year-old man from London's been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault.

Detective Constable Cameron Carter, of Bournemouth CID, said:

“We are carrying out a detailed investigation into these incidents and I am keen to hear from anyone who witnessed what happened who has not already spoken to police.

“I would also urge anyone with relevant mobile phone footage to please get in touch.”

If you can help with any information on the incident, you're asked to contact Dorset Police on 101, quoting reference number 55230098627.

You can also call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Regular proactive patrols are being carried out by police on the beach and surrounding area this summer.

That's part of a campaign to provide a visible presence to tackle reported crime and anti-social behaviour.
