Two cottages severely damaged after major fire in Poxwell

One person was treated for smoke inhalation.

Two cottages have been severely damaged after a thatch fire near Weymouth last night. (22 October)

Crews were called at 6.43pm to reports of a kitchen fire in one of pair of semi-detached cottages in Poxwell.

When they arrived on the scene they found the fire spreading to the thatched roof.

Fire crews from use an aerial ladder to tackle the fire from above.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire & Rescue say all occupants were accounted for and one person was taken to hospital for smoke inhalation.

At the height of the blaze 14 fire crews and approximately 65 firefighters were on scene from across the county.

They tackled the fire to contain it while salvaging possession from the affected homes.

The A353 was shut between Warmwell Roundabout and Osmington Mills.

Its now been reopened.
