Hundreds of homes across Dorset are without power as Storm Darragh sweeps through the county bringing gale-force winds.

According to power company Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN), there are reports of outages in Godmanstone, Lulworth, Bishop's Caundle, Tarrant Launceston and surrounding areas.

Winds speeds of over 65mph were recorded in Weymouth on Saturday morning.

One 'X' user in Dorset commented that they would soon need to eat 'everything' in their freezer after several hours without power.

SSEN reported on Thursday that it was at 'yellow alert status' and was bringing in hundreds of additional team members in advance of the storm arriving, to ensure any customers who lose supplies are reconnected as safely and quickly as possible.

Planned works which were due to take place over the weekend have been postponed to free up more teams to respond to any faults.

They said: "We’ll be getting in touch with our most vulnerable customers, including 750,000 people on our Priority Service Register ahead of the weekend to offer them help and advice. We’ll continue to watch this period of weather closely as it develops, and we’ll issue further updates depending on the forecast."
