"There's no place for it" - Dorset footballer responds to racist abuse
A Gillingham FC footballer says he hopes a man who shouted racist abuse has learned his lesson following a £250 fine
A Bridport fan yelled racist abuse at Eboni McCann during a match in October. The reserve sides of Gillingham Town and Bridport were competing at St Mary's Field in the Dorset Senior Trophy on October the 9th when the match was abandoned after Eboni said he was racially abused by a spectator.
74 year old Peter Chubb from Bridport pleaded guilty yesterday and was fined 250 pounds.
Eboni told Greatest Hits Radio the sentence is a statement to other fans: "This needs to be kicked out of the game full stop, theres no place for it. If you have nothing nice to say, stay at home."
"I go and play football, and it's a hobby of mine. I'm not payed to do it and I shouldn't be subject to racial abuse just for doing a hobby."
The midfielder said he hopes other people will learn from this: "I'm sure this will be a big learning curve to him, that it's not okay to speak to people like that.
"It's such a good example, people will think they can say what they want and there's no repercussions, this will be an example that what you say will have repercussions and it's not okay."
