Teenagers across Dorset can now access sexual health advice, simply by sending a text.

Dorset Sexual Health has set up the confidential service, aimed at young people aged 13 to 19.

Messages sent to 07312 263101 can ask about anything from emergency contraception and unplanned pregnancies, to HIV testing and other sexually transmitted illnesses.

Advisers can also help young people with information about local clinics in Dorset and general sexual health advice.

Joanne Goodman, Advanced Clinical Nurse Lead for Dorset Sexual Health, said:

“It’s fantastic news that we can now offer this additional service for young people across the county. We want to encourage those that need support to text us so we can help them and provide the right advice in an easy and accessible way.”

The service is open Monday to Friday between 8.00am and 6.00pm, with a reply promised from a sexual health advisor within one working day.

Out of hours texts will get an automated message back with advice on where to get help if it's an urgent problem.

You can find out more through the Dorset Sexual Health website.

Teenagers are also reminded that the text service is not an emergency service - and they should contact their GP, call NHS 101 or 999 if more immediate help is needed.
