Temporary Weymouth Harbour Railings could be up for half a year
Councillors have revealed the timeline of the controversial addition to the harbour.
Weymouth Harbour's controversial new railings could be up until October.
Councillors say they'll bring them down then and launch a new consultation on the matter.
Councillor Ray Bryan said:
"They're in for the period up to October. In October we shall do some work to see what people actually thought, whether they found it a hinderance, whether they got used to it, then we'll make a final decision as to whether it's temporary or permanent."
The decision to put the railings there has been made off the back of a consultation on what should be done to assist shops in the area.
People wanted to see shops given more space for outdoor seating, but they don't want to see the area pedestrianised.
Councillor Bryan added:
"This is a temporary measure while we have the sitting out measures
"The alternative to this is for me to close the road which I had enough people tell me they didn't want the roads closed, they didn't want pedestrianisation and that's where I still stand.
"This is an interim measure just to keep the public safe."
