Tawny owl rescued from Weymouth log burner flue
The bird's being looked after until it can be released back to the wild
If you're planning on using your log burner during the cold snap - you might want to check it first....
A tawny owl has been rescued after getting stuck inside one in Weymouth last week.
Best Pest Control and Log Burners Dorset manage to free the Tawny owl from the flue and take it to be looked after.
In a social media post, the rescuers said they were delighted to help:
"You'll be pleased to know our feathered friend is doing well! Not all heroes wear capes!"
The owl, which has been named Sooty or Cinders - as it's not clear yet if it's a boy or girl - is being cared for at a local bird sanctuary before being released.
Preston based conservationist Derek Davey said:
"Sooty or Cinders the Tawny owl came in at the start of the week after being rescued from a long burner flue.
"Very covered in soot and could not open its eyes but after a good clean up and eye wash, looking a lot happier and eating well. Will be kept until I'm sure it's OK then released back to its territory."
