Swimmer rescued from the sea at Weymouth by young couple

He'd been in the water at Newton's Cove for 45 minutes and had succumbed to the cold

A swimmer's been rescued from the sea at Weymouth.

The man had been in the cold water for 45 minutes before his clothing was spotted back on the shore by a young couple.

They scanned the water and managed to see him making slow progress towards the rocks at Newton's Cove.

A spokesperson for Wyke Coastguard Rescue Team said:

"Having succumbed to the effects of the cold he could no longer help himself.

"The couple pulled him from the water before calling the emergency services.

Paramedics placed he casualty on a stretcher and rescues teams from Wyke and Portland Bill moved him over the large boulders and into a waiting ambulance.

Wyke Coastguard Rescue Team added:

"Without this young couple's intervention this incident may have ended in tragic circumstances."
