It's a day of family fun with something for everyone

Sutton Poyntz Victorian Street Fayre near Weymouth is back this Sunday (3rd July) after four year absence.

The Biennial Festival could not go ahead in 2020 because of coronavirus restrictions.

On Sunday 3rd July, locals will be keeping the Victorian tradition alive, by dressing up in period costume and we are all encouraged to do the same.

Sutton Poyntz is the "Overcombe" of Thomas Hardy's novel The Trumpet Major. The village lies 4 miles East of Weymouth and nestles beneath the famous and recently refurbished, White Horse monument on the hillside above.

David Langridge, chairman of the Street Fayre committee said:

"The Fayre has built a reputation for the family entertainment on offer and people come from far and wide, but it is always about our village having a fun community day and rather successfully managing to give a lot of money to local and national projects and charities".

The Sutton Poyntz Victorian Street Fayre was held regularly up until the First World War, but was revived in 1994. Since then, it has given away almost £150,000 to charities including Julia’s House – the children's hospice, the Horse Course, Water Aid and the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance. This year the main beneficiary will be the Weldmar Hospice.
