£200 supermarket vouchers for Dorset pensioners being handed out today
It's to help with the cost of living crisis
Citizen’s advice is helping Dorset residents with their essential shopping.
As part of the government’s household support fund, citizens advice is giving out supermarket vouchers to people of pension age who are struggling financially in Dorset.
The handout will start in Wareham today.
This comes as they are seeing a significant rise in the number of people who are asking for advice on energy and food bank usage.
Nina Downes, the Household support fund project manager, told Greatest Hits Radio Dorset that:
“People are really struggling already, and we know it’s only going to get worse come the price hike again in October”
She expressed her worry about the year ahead:
“People are going to end up in debt and all sorts where they try to find other means to be able to live and so we really do hope that there is going to be more coming from the government, especially in the Autumn statement.”
However, she hopes that this £200 will really help people. It can be used used on different shopping trips and is valid for two years, so people don’t have to use it all in one go.
Citizens Advice will be issuing the vouchers at the following locations in East Dorset & Purbeck:
