Public Health Dorset say they've still not identified any cases of the Omicron variant in the county.

Case rates of Covid-19 remain among the highest in England and hospital admissions in Dorset are continuing to rise.

Infection rates remain at high levels across Dorset Council and Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council, however we have seen a slight decrease in Dorset Council infection rates over the past week. (Figures released on the 3rd December)

We're being urged to take lateral flow tests, wear face coverings in indoor and crowded spaces and ventilate rooms.

The latest statement from Public Health Dorset on their website says:

"The number of people in hospital across Dorset with COVID-19 has continued to increase, although we can see the impact of the vaccine as in previous waves we have seen much higher numbers of people in hospital. We’ve also continued to see a number of deaths related to COVID-19 each week.

"We know that many people will be concerned following the news on the new Omicron variant, which has been found in the UK, and the government has introduced some new measures in response to this as a precaution whilst more analysis is carried out. We’ve not yet identified any cases in Dorset but we’ll continue to work with regional and national colleagues to monitor the situation closely and it is expected that more cases will be found in the UK."

With high infection levels in our local area, Public Health Dorset are asking people to take all measures they can to protect themselves and others from COVID-19:

Take a lateral flow test before meeting others

Get plenty of fresh air and ventilation

Wear a face covering in indoor and crowded spaces

Wash your hands regularly and maintain distance between yourself and others

Self-isolate and arrange a PCR test if you have any symptoms

Get vaccinated, including your booster dose
