Spoiled items no longer being donated to Dorset Ukraine response
It comes after pillows and duvets had to be thrown away because of their poor condition
No more spoiled items are being donated to Dorset's Ukraine donation centre.
Volunteers at Castlepoint say there were some donations in the first week that weren't able to be sent because they were in such a poor condition. Dorset Council's Waste Services were brought in to help take 4.5 tonnes of donations away, most of which was taken away to be recycled.
But volunteers don't want people to be dissuaded from donating certain items.
Karol Swiacki set up the donation centre. He told Greatest Hits Radio Dorset:
"If the condition of the items are good, if they're used but in good condition we are sending everything. They're calling me from Ukraine, from Poland 'Karol, we will take everything.'
"We have been overwhelmed at the beginning when some of people used our Castlepoint area to drop all of these items from pillows, maybe they wanted to do good, they didn't but it's just 1% of the bad things compared to 99.9% of the amazing good things, the kindness and generosity of people here."
Donations are still being taken and Karol is asking specifically for food, canned meats, medicines, bandages, batteries, powerbanks, sleeping matts, sleeping bags, bathroom essentials.
He says items in used but good condition are being accepted.
