The speed limit is to be reduced on Dorset's B3082 at Badbury Rings, to improve safety there.

Dorset Council's taking action, by taking the limit down to 50 mph from Monday (3rd July).

It follows a number of serious and fatal collisions there over the years.

The reduced speed limit will encompass the junctions for Shapwick, Sturminster Marshall and Badbury Rings itself.

The speed limit will drop from 60 mph to 50, from next week

Cllr Ray Bryan, Dorset Council Portfolio Holder for Highways, Travel and Environment, said:

“The Badbury Rings road is important for commuters from Blandford to Wimborne and beyond, but sadly there have been serious and fatal collisions.

“By reducing the speed limit, we aim to make this stretch of road safer for all. Nevertheless, we also urge motorists to drive responsibly and according to the conditions of the road, prioritising the safely of themselves and others.”

The current speed limit there is 60mph, with a public consultation held earlier this year on the proposed reduction.
