Should speed limits be lowered in and around Osmington?
Dorset Council wants to hear our views
We're being asked what we think about ideas to lower speed limits on several roads in and around Osmington.
Dorset Council's responding to concerns from residents, councillors and the parish authority, with a consultation underway.
If the proposals ahead, the changes would include:
- A353 - move the 30mph limit at the western end of Osmington, approximately 45 metres to include the entrance for Eweleaze Farm, with a speed indicator device (SID) installed reminding drivers of their speed
- A353 - extend the current 30mph at the eastern end of Osmington by approximately 61 metres for a slower speed transition for vehicles entering the village
- A353 - lower the speed limit from 60mph to 50mph between the villages of Osmington and Poxwell for approximately 802 metres
- A353 - extend the current 40mph by 250 metres to incorporate the busy junction used for access to Ringstead Bay
- Mills Road - reduce the speed limit, running to Osmington Mills, to 30mph. It currently has a 60mph limit deemed 'inappropriate'
- Road to Ringstead Bay - reduce the speed limit to 30mph. It currently has a 60mph limit deemed 'inappropriate'
The changes would follow several serious collisions in the area over previous years.
Cllr Jon Andrews, Dorset Council Cabinet Member for Place Services, said:
“The local community has voiced strong support for these speed limit reductions, and our road safety team has carefully evaluated them in light of local collision data and Department for Transport guidelines.
“These proposals represent a significant step forward in enhancing road safety in Osmington and the surrounding area. I am delighted that we are now able to gather broader public feedback."
