Police investigate spate of suspicious bin fires in Bridport
Firefighters say they could have resulted in a risk to life and major damage to property
Police have launched an investigation after a spate of bin fires in Bridport.
Fire crews were called to bins that had been set alight in West Street, River Vale and outside Bridport Post Office in the early hours of this morning.
A spokesperson for Bridport Fire Station said:
"Both pump's mobilised to Golden Dragon, West Street to a bin fire.
"On arrival crews found one bin well alight against a building. Crews used one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.
"The second appliance wasn't required and on returning to station found another bin on fire outside Bridport Post Office. One hose reel jet was used to extinguish the fire.
"Just as the second appliance was returning to station we were then mobilised to another bin fire in River Vale. On arrival crews found one bin well alight between a fence and a car. One hose reel jet was used to extinguish the fire."
Due to the suspicious circumstances police are reviewing CCTV footage.
Bridport Fire Station added:
"Thankfully there was no damage to any properties other than the bins. Had these fires not been spotted and dealt with quickly it could have escalated further resulting in significant fires causing major damage to property and risk to life."
