Storm Barra has caused damage to the roof of South Walks House in Dorchester.

Roads and paths around the council building have been closed as a safety precaution.

Dorchester Library and Learning Centre will also be closed today while emergency contractors assess the damage.

A spokesperson for Dorset Council said yesterday:

"Emergency contractors have been contacted. However, due to the continued high winds it will not be possible to assess the damage until they subside, which we hope will be in the morning. (Wednesday)

"As a result, the roads and paths around the building have been closed as a safety precaution. The roads affected are Charles Street, South Walks Road, from Five Cross Junction up Acland Road, and Acland Road.

"The roads will be closed until an assessment and a plan to make the building safe, have been made."

Dorset Council is apologising for any inconvenience.
