More than 60 firefighters have tackled a fire in the roof of a thatched cottage near Wimborne.

Crews were called to Holt Lane in Holt shortly before 6.00pm on Friday.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said its firefighters spent the night damping down and salvaging belongings from the home.

The road through Holt was closed through the night and residents were advised to keep their windows and doors closed.

A Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: "Firefighters remained at this incident overnight.

"They worked hard and were able to save the majority of the householders' possessions.

"No one has been injured.

"One fire engine remains at this incident this morning dampening down hotspots."
