A section of Bournemouth's train station car park has been closed off, after a sinkhole opened up.

A van partially fell into the hole last night (Monday 21st October), and has been lifted out by recovery crews this lunchtime (Tuesday 22nd).

The front passenger side of the vehicle had fallen down.

Staff have been on site working to make the area safe since 5.30am.

A nearby drain, around 8 feet away hasn't been damaged in the incident.

A South Western Railway spokesperson said:

“The hole in the car park appeared overnight and South Western Railway and Network Rail are currently carrying out an investigation.

"Station colleagues have been in conversation with the owner of the van and arrangements for its recovery have already been made.”

The affected area's now been sealed off while investigations into the cause get underway

Six parking spaces have now been fenced off.
