PICTURES: Shelf cloud forms over Dorset as thunderstorms hit the county

Images of the impressive cloud were captured across Weymouth and Portland

Stunning images have been capture of a weather phenomenon over Dorset last night.

It's called a shelf cloud, and formed just before the county was hit by thunderstorms.

According to the Met Office 'Arcus cloud' are "low-level, long, thin clouds associated with powerful thunderstorms. Shelf clouds are attached to the storm cloud."
