If you're struggling, don't suffer in silence

Samaritans in Dorset are ready to listen

'Don't suffer in silence - reach out to us and we will listen,' the message of support to people in Dorset comes from Samaritans.

There's concern that a rise in loneliness due to coronavirus restrictions this December, is affecting our mental health.

Felix is a listening volunteer for the charity.

He says there are different types of loneliness:

"There is the obvious of someone who lives on their own and doesn't have any family or friends.

"There is maybe a worse type of loneliness. That is the people who feel lonely despite the fact they are in a family of a crowd. One everyone else is smiling and you're not, that makes you feel even worse."

Felix explains ho a simple phone call to Samaritans can make all the difference.

"We all know what pressure cookers are. And on the top of the pressure cooker there's a little valve. And if that valve doesn't release the pressure your supper or whatever there was in there will end up around the walls of the kitchen because the whole thing will explode . By ringing Samaritans, you will release that pressure."

If you need to speak to Samaritans, they're available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and you can call them for free on 116 123.
