Safety warning issued after cliff fall
Part of the cliff collapsed at Hive Beach.
Another warning has been issued about Dorset's unstable coastline
A cliff collapsed at Hive Beach near Burton Bradstock over the Bank Holiday weekend.
Recent heavy rain and stormy seas have been battering the coast
Sam Scriven is from the Jurassic Coast Trust. He told Greatest Hits Radio:
"A fairly wide section of the cliff face just collapsed down onto the beach.
"It would have been very sudden and I think it was early in the morning so no one was around.
"It is a constant danger along the whole of the Jurassic Coast."
The Jurassic Coast Trust have now issued advice on how to stay safe on beaches and cliff tops.
'How to stay safe on the coast'
Do not take unnecessary risks and stay away from the edge of the cliff top.
Stay away from the base of cliffs: rock falls can happen at any time.
Do not climb or walk over landslide or rock fall debris, especially after wet weather.
Always pay attention to warning signs; they are there to advise you on how to stay safe.
Check the weather forecast before you go.
Beware of steep, shelving beaches and large waves.
Be aware of tide times. The sea comes in and out twice a day and it is possible to get cut off by the incoming tide or forced up against the cliffs.
If you are looking for fossils, do not hammer into the cliffs or solid rock as this will cause long lasting damage and can be dangerous.
In case of an emergency on the coast dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
