Rocket launches summer term at Dorchester School
Children at Prince of Wales School were treated to a rocket launch as they came back to school for the new term.
Children weren't expecting the summer term welcome to be such a blast at the Prince of Wales School in Dorchester.
They watched a small rocket powered by a small amount of dynamite shoot 500ft up in to the air at the end of the first day back.
It's all part of the launch of the national #InspiredToLearn21 Summer Tour by non-profit community enterprise STEAM Co. who won a major Culture Recovery fund from DCMS/HM Treasury and Arts Council England to run live/live streamed events like this for communities across the UK
It was launched on 1st April in the Prime Ministers new £2.5m PowerPoint room.
STEAM Co. was co-founded by Nick Corston a Dad in his son's school ten years ago and he now plans to roll it out to schools across the UK by encouraging kids and parents to get creative together.
Mr Gary Spraklen, Head teacher at Prince of Wales School said "everything we do here at the school is about ensuring that our children are inspired to learn, by making learning fun and enjoyable, children achieve so much more. A passion they discover today could become their livelihood tomorrow, if not make them a few friends and the world a better place"
Nick Corston says today's children have been through a hard time and are the 'golden generation':
"Like the kids who came out of the war, they had a tough time, they ended up inventing cars, they invented jet engines, they went on to change the world.
"Today was about not worrying about our kids, whether they'll catch up or not, but helping them leap ahead, helping them aim high, and find something they're passionate about.
"You can't force feed children. A big thing for me to be honest is giving children the chance to try different things and it might just sew that seed that becomes a craze, a hobby now that sews that seed."
All through the UN World Creativity and Innovation Week, Corston will be delivering #InspiredToLearn21 Live Streamed Assembles to school communities in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland before returning the cathedral to Joseph Cash Primary in Coventry, the UK City of Culture for 2021 starting next month. All through May, June and July he will hit the road running live creativity festivals in the UK's schools with a number of festival weekends too.
