One of Dorchester’s busiest routes will be closed to traffic for up to two weeks from early April.

Maumbury Road, from Maumbury Cross at the junction with Weymouth Avenue, is being shut for a gas main replacement.

The closure will include a short section of Herringston Road.

The decision to close the route coincides with the school Easter holidays.

The route is a major one to and from schools on Manor Park and for pupils from the estate heading towards the first, middle and senior schools on the western side of the town.

Signs warning of the coming closure have been put out now to give motorists advanced warning of the works.
