Roadworks affecting Christchurch railway bridge from today
BCP Council will be working on Barrack Road for six weeks
Some essential maintenance works to a railway bridge in Christchurch from today (Monday 3rd June) will mean disruption for drivers.
BCP Council is working on the Barrack Road bridge for the next six weeks.
They'll have a contraflow system in place throughout the works, reducing it to one lane of traffic in each direction, to allow staff to work on one side of the road at a time.
The footpaths won't be affected.
The works will see the tarmac and some defective expansion joints replaced, and a new waterproof membrane installed.
Councillor Andy Hadley, Portfolio Holder for Climate Response, Environment and Energy at BCP Council, said:
“This essential maintenance work is key to improving the durability of the railway bridge to ensure its safety and functionality for years to come.
“As always, we will endeavour to complete these works as quickly as possible but understand the frustrations it may cause to those who use this route regularly, so please be patient with us and ensure you are leaving extra time for your journeys or seek an alternative route where possible.”
