A road closure was put in place after reports of an explosive device on Ferry Road, in Studland. It has since reopened.

Police received the report at around 9:50am today (Thursday).

Officers have liaised with explosive ordnance device experts and delayed the controlled detonation, which was planned for this afternoon.

The wider cordon has been reduced and the road has safely reopened.

Police say work to safely detonate the device will likely be reinstated in due course but no timeframe has been confirmed at this stage.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said:

"The controlled detonation has been delayed so the wider cordon has been reduced and the road has reopened.

"It will likely need to be reinstated in due course but we do not have a confirmed timeframe at this stage.

"The area has been made safe and the road remains open at this time.

"We would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding while the cordons are in place."
