The on-going pandemic and a rise in infection rates have lead to the decision

Dorset will be remembering the tragic loss of life following two World Wars and other conflicts in more recent years at its annual Remembrance service on Thursday 11 November.

The event will be live-streamed due to the on-going pandemic and rising number of infections in the county and only be attended by a small number of invited guests to ensure public safety and minimise the spread of the virus.

The service will take place at 10.45am on Thursday 11 November at County Hall in Dorchester and will be a short, socially distanced event.

The service will be led by Revd John Yarrien, and the introduction will be read by Cllr Val Pothecary, Chairman of Dorset Council before the wreaths will be laid.

A bugler will be in attendance and the Lord Lieutenant Angus Campbell and Major Dan Tanner will read the Exhortation and Kohima respectively, followed by a two-minute silence.

We will be live-streaming the service on Facebook and invite members of the public to join us online to remember and honour those who fought and died in the line of duty.

Cllr Val Pothecary, Chairman of Dorset Council, said:

“The pandemic will not stop us from honouring the sacrifice of the fallen and valour of our veterans.

“We will remember and reflect on the sacrifices made by military personnel and those that have lost their lives as a result of armed conflict or terrorism and all those that have defended our freedoms and protected our way of life.

“We hope that residents will join the service via the live-stream and we encourage people to mark the two-minute silence at 11am.”
