Refurbishment to begin on Winton Health Centre in Bournemouth
£1.2 million investment will transform the local site into a modern healthcare facility
The Winton Health Centre in Bournemouth is set to receive a £1.2 million refurbishment from the NHS, bringing modern healthcare facilities to the area.
The project, led by Dorset HealthCare, NHS Dorset, and the Banks and Bearwood Medical Practice, will revamp the existing site on Alma Road.
Work is scheduled to begin in February, with completion anticipated by summer 2026.
The Centre, owned by Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole (BCP) Council, is bound by a covenant that requires its usage for clinical purposes.
Once the refurbishment is complete, the Banks and Bearwood Medical Practice on Wimborne Road will relocate to the updated site.
The expanded practice will include six consulting rooms, enhancing access to primary care services for the community.
Besides GP services, the facility will offer various community health services provided by Dorset HealthCare, such as paediatric care, speech and language therapy, podiatry, leg ulcer clinics, community oncology, and more.
The location is ideal for local residents, offering on-site parking and excellent public transport connections.
The initiative is part of the NHS’ commitment to provide healthcare services closer to home.
Dr. Yasser Kerim, GP partner at Banks and Bearwood, expressed enthusiasm for the project:
“This is an exciting development for the Winton community. The new health centre will provide modern, high-quality facilities that will allow patients to access a wide range of services close to home. We’ll also be able to provide more appointments, meaning people can be seen more quickly.”
Rachel Small, Chief Operating Officer at Dorset HealthCare, said: “Our aim is to make healthcare more accessible for local people, bring together lots of services on one site, and this investment in Winton is a great example of that commitment in action.”
Before the refurbishment begins, stakeholder engagement sessions and residents’ meetings will be conducted to keep the community informed and minimize any potential disruptions.
