The fate of Redlands Community Sports Hub could be decided in the next two months.

Community groups are currently in talks with Dorset Council to run the site themselves after news Weymouth College is pulling out of its lease in August.

But Dorset Council is stressing no decisions have been made yet, and it's open to all options being presented to it.

Councillor Laura Miller is the Council's portfolio holder for customer and community services. Greatest Hits Radio Dorset asked her what was next. She said:

"I don't know, and the reason I don't know what's next is because there's this huge outpouring of love and support for the centre from the people who use it.

"Our position as Dorset Council is we know that Weymouth College wants to hand back the lease and focus on the education side of things that they do and we're just looking at all the options as the landowner so that when the college decide to hand the lease back - hopefully, we can have something that works for the community to replace it.

Options on the table include handing the site to campaigners trying to set up a community interest company, and/ or handing over the outdoor parts of the site to Active Dorset.

Cllr Miller added:

"It's important to stress at the moment, we haven't had the lease handed back but we know the college would like to.

"What we're trying to do is act as a facilitator and try to listen to the community. If the community are telling us it's really important to them and there are interested people who would like to have a go at running it, Dorset Council listens to its residents and I hope we could find a way forward."
