Prince Charles has been visiting Dorset today - including a stop off in Poundbury.

He's officially opened a new play area there, cutting the ribbon to invite children from two local schools to have a go on the equipment.

The equipment at the Great Field takes inspiration from the prominent buildings within the village.

People gathering to meet the Prince of Wales were pleased to see him.

One local woman said she'd achieved a life's mission:

"It was an honour to meet him. I'm Romanian and live in Poundbury. Since I moved here, I told my husband this is my aim, this is my goal, to meet Prince Charles!"

A man from the village said he wasn't sure of royal protocol:

"He said how lovely it is to see the trees have grown so well and that it's looking so pretty. I've seen him before, but never spoken to him and never shook his hand. You're never sure what to do, whether to hold your hand out or not - but I did and he took it and held on for some time!"

Children from the Prince of Wales School in Dorchester and Damers First School in Poundbury were there to play on the park after it was officially opened.

Miles King from charity People Need Nature says Damers' children will be helping to keep the area evolving too:

"The Prince is very keen on what the school's doing. They're going to have their own little meadow at the top end. They'll collect wildflower seed at nearby places like Maiden Castle, grow it on at school and plant it out. Then they've got an area to look after that's theirs."
