A new work celebrating the life of architect Sir Christopher Wren is being unveiled on Portland today (Saturday 23rd September).

The Dean of St Paul's Cathedral - which was designed by Wren and built from Portland Stone - will officially unveil the piece at 2.00pm.

The work has been designed and carved by the Portland Sculpture and Quarry Trust.

The ceremony is open to all and will feature live performances from Portland based Christina McManus of Stromatic Dance, artists Sarah Woodfine and Dr Lois Rowe.

This is the second of 12 so-called Memory Stones to be completed - each representing a working partnership and commitment to the regeneration of Portland’s landscape, people, and place.

The design links Wren’s 52 churches and Cathedral to a walk-through Portland's heritage quarries, arriving at a 10ft wide roadway that Wren built to transport stone to London.

The route is now an overgrown footpath treated as insignificant; but campaigners are looking to restore it and rename it 'Wren’s Way’.
