Popular 'legacy event' returns to Weymouth
Weymouth’s Dusk Till Dark includes giant dolls, opera and drumming toy soldiers
Weymouth’s unique ‘Dusk ‘till Dark’ is back and promises to be better than ever.
It is part of Activate Performing Arts’, Inside Out festival which is now in its third year and sees Weymouth transform into a magical world of performance, light, and music.
Dawn Rondeau from We Are Weymouth said: “The first time we ran it, there weren’t many people in town when we thought there were going to and then suddenly the town filled with thousands of people and because of all the buzz and excitement of that first night, the second night we had double the number.”
Three giant, illuminated dolls will turn the streets into their own opera house alongside drumming toy soldiers known as Les Tambours.
Ms Rondeau told us: “This year is about taking part in the experience, watching the operatic performance and following the drummers through different parts of the town.”
Attendees can immerse themselves in the act and accompany the singing divas as they glide through the town centre.
This year’s event welcomes French company Transe Express and its parade show Poupées Géantes.
Ms Rondeau shared what this event means to Weymouth: “It's a legacy that we started a few years ago that we want to keep building on to encourage people to come back to Weymouth even when the holiday season has finished.
“These are the shoulder months when people are saying ‘what else can we do?’ but with this there's a real excitement and we know hotels are being booked and people are coming in their droves.”
The free to attend event will take place on later today September 23 as part of a wider Inside Out Dorset’s performing arts festival which has events take place in towns all over the county.
