Police are calling for witnesses after a mute swan was found dead in Poole Park.

The swan was found with injuries suggesting it had been shot.

A witness reported seeing the swan alive but injured near the subway to Baiter Park at around 6.30am on Sunday morning (3rd October). Another witness later found the animal dead by 8.15am, and contacted the police.

It’s believed the swan was shot using an air weapon or possibly a catapult with a lead shot, but police say they’re making further enquiries.

Wildlife Crime Officer Pete Raymond, of Poole Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “I am appealing to anyone who was in Poole Park at the time and may have witnessed the incident to please get in touch.

“If you have any information about who was responsible, please contact Dorset Police.”
