Dorset Police are reminding us seatbelts aren't optional for children.

It's after a dad on the school run was stopped by police in Gillingham.

His young son was sat in the back of the car without a seatbelt, while his school bag was in the proper child's car seat in the front.

A spokesperson for North Dorset Police said:

"Apparently the child wanted to sit in the back on the way home and dad allowed him! Despite having the correct child seat fitted in the front which had his sons school bag in.

"The driver has been reported for both offences and faces a £200 fine in total."
