Dorset Police say they are investigating reports of racist and homophobic comments made during a match between Weymouth FC and FC Halifax Town at the weekend.
It's reported two people were asked to leave the Bob Lucas Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
A spokesperson for Dorset Police said:
"It is reported that two people were asked to leave the ground during a match between Weymouth FC and FC Halifax Town on the afternoon of Saturday 5 March 2022 at the Bob Lucas Stadium in Weymouth.
"It is reported that one made a racially aggravated comment and the second person made a homophobic comment. Enquiries are underway into both reported incidents.
"Dorset Police condemns hate crime of all forms and we are committed to investigating offences of this nature."
Weymouth Football Club say will work with Dorset Police to prevent any future incidents.
A spokesperson for the club has told Greatest Hits Radio Dorset:
"Weymouth Football Club deplore all such behaviour by fans no matter who they support at the Bob Lucas stadium. This also applies when our fans travel to watch the team away from home.
"Our safety team led by Paul Brown work closely with the Dorset Police to try to prevent such abhorrent behaviour. Weymouth and FC Halifax Town have liaised with one another and we will now leave it with FC Halifax Town to deal with as they feel fit."
In response, we've had a statement provided by FC Halifax Town:
"The club does not condone homophobic, racist or any other abuse and nor will it be tolerated.
"We are currently working with West Yorkshire Police and Dorset Police to understand the details of the alleged incident on Saturday and we will then take the appropriate course of action."
