Police investigation into Gillingham van fire

It's unclear whether a vehicle blaze was deliberate or accidental

Police in Gillingham are looking for information into a van fire - to establish if a crime's been committed.

A white Ford van was found alight on Fantley Lane in Silton at around 2.30pm on Saturday 30th April.

Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue put out the fire and recovery for the vehicle was arranged.

The van on fire was discovered on Fantley Lane in Silton, near Gillingham

But police are now investigating the circumstances.

PC Ed Lewis, of North Dorset Police, said:

“At this time the cause of the fire has not been confirmed and we are unable to say whether it was deliberate or accidental.

“We are continuing to carry out enquiries to establish the circumstances and I would urge anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area, or if they have captured anything relevant on dashcam footage, to please come forward.”
