A new poetry project, OmniVerse Weymouth and Portland, has been launched by local arts group The Jawbone Collective to highlight underrepresented voices in Dorset.

The initiative is one of 13 to receive funding from the Launchpad programme, part of Weymouth and Portland’s Town of Culture 2025.

The project will respond to the Town of Culture theme 'Reveal' by focusing on stories and perspectives that have often been overlooked in the area’s cultural life.

Through a series of immersive poetry experiences, OmniVerse are aiming to offer fresh ways for both residents and visitors to engage with the two towns.

"We want to reveal new perspectives on Weymouth and Portland through the authentic voices of people who call these places home," says Naomi Wilcox-Lee, project lead for OmniVerse.

"Too often, marginalized communities remain invisible in how our towns tell their stories. Through poetry, we're creating space for these essential voices to be heard and celebrated in the very places where people live their lives."

Writers from underrepresented backgrounds are invited to take part in two upcoming poetry workshops as part of the OmniVerse project, which will culminate in two celebration events showcasing participants' work.

Writers interested in participating can register for the workshops now on the Jawbone website.
