Plea for gifts from Dorset Care Home Christmas campaign
Dorset's care home residents are in just as much need now as they were last year.
A Christmas gift campaign for elderly care home residents in Dorset is asking for more people to consider donating this year.
Last year 'Fab Friends Fun Bag' delivered presents to over 100 residents across three care homes.
Care Homes limited the number of visitors allowed, with other restrictions in place last year as the country dealt with rising coronavirus cases.
But, Christine Taylor who runs the campaign says gifts are needed just as much this year. She said:
"This year I presume there will have been more visitors but there are still people in care homes who don't receive visitors.
"I know once chap whose only relatives are in Australia. I think it's loneliness as much as anything else, and I just wanted them to feel wanted."
"I'm guessing that people are back to their busy lives and dropping presents round or thinking about getting something if they haven't got anything to regift, I'm guessing that time isn't on our side."
Last year Christine received lots of thank you messages from care home residents and managers.
Children at St George's school on Portland have been making cards and other local companies have provided some presents.
If you'd like to help out, Christine's asking for donations of anything you'd like to receive yourself. Although, she's asking people to avoid giving candles.
James Young Associates on Radipole Lane are acting as a collection points for some of the gifts. If you'd like to find out about other drop off points or ask about what's still needed, you can email Christine on: theatreclub1997@gmail.com
