£600,000 plans to transform forecourt at Weymouth Train Station win support
The results are back from a public consultation.
Weymouth Train Station is in a 'poor condition', according to the findings of a consultation into how to improve the area.
280 people responded to the online consultation, suggesting many parts of the station need to be redesigned.
Dorset Coast Forum are aiming to make the area more inviting for visitors, and easier for pedestrians, cyclists and bus users.
Most respondents, many of whom use the station area, said it was in poor condition and in need of transformation.
They particularly said the forecourt should be redesigned to be more welcoming attractive and safe.
This included ideas such as:
Redesigning the car parking and flow of traffic
Provision of sustainable transport lings
Improving bus and cycle integration
Improving pedestrianisation in the forecourt
Andrew Ardley, Regional Development Manager, South Western Railway said:
“There is a clear message for change with the project and I am encouraged by the engagement from the local community in Weymouth and thank them for their contributions. We look forward to seeing a new and improved station area welcoming visitors to Weymouth as well as an enhanced experience for local people.”
Cllr Ray Bryan, Dorset Council’s Portfolio Holder for Highways, Travel and Environment, added:
"I’d like to thank everyone involved for their interest and positive feedback to the recent survey.
"We want to make sure everyone experiences a warm welcome when they arrive in Weymouth and have sustainable transport connections within the area."
