A free family event in Weymouth is happening at The Marsh this Saturday and the team need more helping hands.

Local councillors, part of the Westham Community group, have organised a picnic by the park to bring the local community together.

Volunteers are needed to help set up the gazebos, manning the bouncy castle, packing up and litter picking.

There will be lots of family fun with free children's entertainment, magician, crazy golf and basket ball coaching.

The event starts at 11am and finishes at 3pm.

Local charities and organisations will also be there, along with hot food stand and ice-cream can.

Westham East Councillor Alex Furhamnn is one of the organisers, he told Greatest Hits Radio Dorset:

"It's a chance for the young people who did the art work on the basketball court to be celebrated. I want to make sure that the community appreciates heir work in to that which feeds in to their ownership of the court.

"Within Westham there aren't many events especially with Covid-19 so this is a great opportunity for the community to come together, get in the sun and share that feeling of knowing that we're not trapped in our houses, there are people around good feelings to share.

"As part of Weymouth Town Council, myself, Gill Taylor and Ryan hope, we want to make our green spaces and wide open spaces accessible to our residents sometimes you got to do that by putting an event on and reminding people these places do exist and we should get out and use them for social mobility and make sure that we're coming together in shared spaces.

"The Marsh has been un-utilised and we want to kick start that back in to being used."
