Person dies after being hit by train in Dorset

The incident's causing disruption to services between Weymouth and Wareham

A person's died after being hit by a train in Dorset.

British Transport Police say they were called to Woodsford this morning (Tuesday 26th September).

In a statement they've said:

"Officers were called to the line in Woodsford at 10.23am on 26th September following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

Train services in the area were suspended earlier but lines have now reopened.

A South Western Railway spokesperson said:

“As a result of the emergency services attending an incident between Wareham and Weymouth, services in the area may be cancelled, delayed or revised - with disruption currently expected to last until at least 19:00 today. Customers should check the SWR website for latest travel information. https://www.southwesternrailway.com/plan-my-journey.

“We would like to apologise to any affected customers for the inconvenience caused to their journeys.”
