Person dies after incident on railway line near Wool

Dorset paramedics pronounced them dead at the scene

Train services have been suspended between Weymouth and Bournemouth following an incident on part of the South Western Railway line near Wool.

British Transport Police were called to the line near Wool, Dorset, at 1.47pm today (9th August) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers are working to identify the deceased and inform their next of kin.

This incident is not being treated as suspicious.

A Spokesperson from Dorset and Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Services said:

"We were called to a location off Winfrith Common at 1.54pm this afternoon to assist the police and ambulance service. Crews attended from Weymouth, Wareham, Dorchester and Poole, together with a small 4x4 appliance from Bere Regis.

"Our stop was at 3.20pm, all appliances other than one from Weymouth have now left the scene."
