UPDATED: One person airlifted to safety after falling from cliff on Portland

A major rescue response was launched

Rescue teams have airlifted a person to safety after they fell 15ft from Blacknor Point on Portland.

HM Coastguard got the call at midday today and teams from across Dorset assisted with the incident.

South Western Ambulance Service were called to the scene at 1:10pm on Tuesday.

They confirmed to us, that it was a man who was rescued.

"We received a call on Tuesday at 1.10pm about an incident involving a person who had fallen in the area of Blacknor Point, Portland. We treated the male patient at the scene and discharged him."

A Spokesperson from the HM Coastguard told Greatest Hits Radio Dorset:

"At just before 12.30pm today, HM Coastguard received a report that a person had fallen near Blacknor Point, Isle of Portland, Dorset.

"Wyke and Portland Bill Coastguard Rescue Teams were sent to assist as well as the HM Coastguard search and rescue helicopter from Lee-on-Solent.

"The casualty was located and winched to a place of safety before being passed into the care of the South Western Ambulance Service."
